Scott White has organized a road trip to Pride Under the Pines, see details below. Please RSVP for a headcount.
LET'S GET OUT AND DRIVE! Now that the desert is back down to mostly double digit temps, we Palm Springs folks can begin driving our cars again (okay, some of us didn’t stop in the summer). First up is a trip to Idyllwild, CA for the “Pride Under the Pines” celebration - and we would LOVE for everyone in the club to join us!
WHEN:
Saturday, October 4, 2025 - 12:00 p.m. (NOTE: WE LEAVE PALM SPRINGS AT 10AM). I know that this is a week before the Casual Concourse, so if you want to bring a daily driver (or a car you aren’t entering in CC), we understand!
WHERE:
Palm Springs area folks - Meet at the Jensen’s Parking Lot (in Smoketree) in Palm Springs at 10:00 a.m.(where we have our ice cream socials). We will drive up Hwy 111 to Hwy 74 and up the mountain to Idyllwild! The Pride Under the Pines celebration will be at the Town Hall building (25925 Cedar St, Idyllwild-PineCove, CA 92549). Yes, we’ll be headed to Idyllwild a bit early to take advantage of the cool weather for the climb up the mountain and hopefully get good parking.
LA and San Diego area folks, if you would like to meet us in Idyllwild we would LOVE to see you! We plan to get to Idyllwild about 11:30 a.m. If we’re there a bit early (event starts at noon), hopefully we can get parking close together!
WHY:
I have a long history with creating and putting on a small town pride in a rural area (I founded and chaired the first couple of San Luis Valley PrideFests in rural Colorado), so I know the amount of work it takes and the importance of support from the community - especially in these times. While big Pride celebrations have their own set of challenges, small rural celebrations face a unique set of challenges - smaller attendance, smaller budgets, wanting to balance the desire for names that will draw a crowd and being able to afford them, showcasing and supporting local talent, etc. plus the challenges of being rural. They can use all the support they can get!
OTHER INFO:
The Pride Under the Pines event runs
from 12-7 pm with drag queens, a headlined concert, and more! You must have a ticket for the event, which are $20/person and are available from
prideunderthepines.com. I’ve been told by the organizers that there are some picnic tables available for seating, but are on a first come, first served basis. Might not be a bad idea to throw in a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
Let’s all try to wear a Great Autos t-shirt if you have one. How cool would that be to see our club represented that way, letting everyone know we’re here, we’re queer, and we’re supporting our community!
As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
