The time has come to register for your pilgrimage to Imperial Rome! You may have noticed we are now also calling it West Coast Meet XL, and the reasons are two-fold. First, this is, in fact, the fortieth meeting on the Central Coast between Great Autos and the Freewheelers. A meeting that has spawned such cherished memories as Autorama Tropicana, Gone with the Zephyr and Côte d’Obispo. Plus, not since 1986 at the “Smiler Grogan Memorial Tour” has Imperial been the featured marque! And second, you can plan on a meet that is extra large in every way possible! Decorations, entertainment, activities—all of it more over-the-top—more XL—than you’ve seen in years!
Be sure to note the field on the registration form for “Latin Name.” This is your opportunity to decide what you would call yourself in Rome in 40BCE! Think Constantine Chromium or Tiberius Tonneau. It’ll appear on your name badge!
Unfortunately, due to a shortage in the supply of grapes and grains, the Imperial Senate has had to levy a higher tributum to attend, but rest assured each extra denarius will be repaid in laughs that will last a lifetime! Besides, all those columns and that triumphal arch don’t quarry themselves!
As Emperor Maximus Wheelbase himself said last month: “Set your sundials for May 7-10 and bring your Imperials, Mark Vs and Mustang IIs. And your Italian-built makes, such as Lamborghini Diablos, Dual Ghias, and Maserati 3500GTs! But whatever you do, don’t miss this opportunity to trip on the cobblestones of memory lane known as the Appian Way!”
