I’m sure you heard this tune many times this year as the famous Route 66 celebrates its 100th Anniversary. Great Autos is here to celebrate with you, with our “Swinging 60’s on Route 66” theme for Casual Concours 2026. This year we take you back to a time when gas was 30 cents a gallon and Detroit built cars that ruled Route 66. Chevrolet Impalas, Ford Galaxies, Plymouth Furys, Cadillac Coupe de Villes and the ever-popular station wagon.
But let’s not forget the convertible. A couple of fun facts. For model year 1965 two milestones happened. 1) For the first time ever, Chevrolet sold over 1 million Impalas. 2) Total convertible sales of all car companies reached their highest percentage ever of 6.2%. More than 1 in 20 cars rolling off the assembly line in 1965 was a convertible. Today it’s about 1 in 200. We also celebrate Route 66 which travels from Chicago to LA. (That sounds familiar!) 2400 miles of two-lane roads passing through small town USA.
Yes, 1960s cars are our theme cars this year, but as always, we invite all Great Auto members to come and display their favorite vehicle. Foreign or domestic, any year, any model of vehicle. Fret not, all of your favorite events are here for Casual Concours. Kick-Off Party at Porsche Palm Springs, Charity Car Show and Awards Banquet at Mission Hills Country Club and Sunday Brunch at our new location, Willie’s in Rancho Mirage.
Our beneficiaries this year support our LGBTQ family in all age brackets. The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert and Safe Schools Desert Cities, empowering LGBTQ youth in our local schools. Consider being a sponsor to help support these organizations. Contact Glenn Gordon at ggordon17@yahoo.com.
As with many Great Autos events, we cannot succeed without the good will of our volunteers. Our volunteers are the fuel that keeps Casual Concours going. Please consider giving one or two hours of your time to help us through the weekend. We have over 100 positions to fill from Thursday morning through Saturday afternoon. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Tom Keim at tomkeim@sbcglobal.net.
Lastly, please do not wait to register for an event. All events have limited capacity and sell out early (Except spectator tickets for car show). Registration is open now at greatautos.org through October 7th. Visit Modernism Week to purchase spectator tickets and use the code GREATAUTOS to receive a $5.00 discount on each ticket.
How do I pay for registration?
Great Autos accepts PayPal or direct debit/credit cards (via PayPal as a processor) for event registration. For diect debit/credit cards, you should still select PayPal as your payment method when prompted. You can then choose the option to pay directly via debit/credit card as a guest. You are never required to sign up for a PayPal account or to use your own PayPal account when paying directly with a debit/credit card. Please read the prompts carefully.
Those who are technically challenged may print out the manual application form and mail it in with a check.
