About this event

Join us at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 8 at Galpin Motors’ spectacular private collection of classic and special-interest cars that is not open to the public. It’s located in North Hills in the San Fernando Valley right off the 405.

The majority of the 50-plus cars in the museum are from the Blue Oval (aka Fords), but they also have an amazing collection of custom cars, particularly the radical custom cars of the ’60s from iconic customizers like Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, pinstriper Von Dutch, and of course the legendary George Barris.  The “Roth cars”--as they are known--were created out of Roth’s fertile and sometimes odd vision, and most were reproduced as 1/25-scale models. The collection houses one of the largest collection of Roth cars including the hovercraft-like Rotar, Orbitron, Tweedy Pie, and Mysterion. George Barris’ customized T-bird of TV personality Elvira and Liberace’s personal Zimmer are also part of the display.

Also featured are some of legendary hot rodding personality and pinstriper Von Dutch’s cars and tools and also a special collection of tiny microcars. Throughout the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s, Galpin Motors were well know for their own customizing for their customers. “Galpinizing” styles and Galpinbuilt show cars are also on display, like Gary Weckesser’s wild 4-engine Mustang drag car and the land speed record-holding Edelbrock Special 1929 Ford. There definitely will be something for everyone here and the museum captures the history and styles of the car crazy ’60s and ’70s.

After our tour, we will be having a gourmet lunch specially prepared by the chef from the Horseless Carriage, Galpin’s onsite restaurant. The event cost is $64 a person, which includes the museum tour and gourmet lunch. You MUST pre-register for the event at greatautos.org. Final directions and details will be emailed to you a week before the event.

This is your chance to tour one of the most interesting and unique car museums in the world. We’ll see you there!
